Lamborghini sales exceed expectations in the UAE

Abu Dhabi: Italy's luxury carmaker Lamborghini is expecting a marginal decline in its UAE sales this year, although they have been more or less steady in the second half of 2009, Martin Andrews, area sales manager for Lamborghini Middle East, told Gulf News on Sunday.

"We sold 60 vehicles in the UAE last year and this year we expect to sell more than 50," Andrews said in a telephone interview.

"In this region we have seen less impact of the global financial crisis compared with some other markets around the world. We have seen our sales recover in the UAE during the second half this year... we are ahead of our expectations," he added.

Lamborghini sells gasoline-powered cars in a price range of Dh800,000 to Dh1.55 million in the UAE. Lamborghinis can generate from 560 to 670 horsepower and are capable of reaching speeds of up to 325 km/h.

Lamborghini sells two variants — Gallardo and Murcielago. Its dealership here has been operating for 25 years.

In 2008, Lamborghini sold 2,546 vehicles worldwide. Comparable half-year sales volumes for the Middle East region were 84 cars in 2008 versus 60 units in 2009.

In the UAE, half-year volumes were 31 cars in 2008 versus 23 in 2009, the company said in an e-mailed statement.

"We sold this year about 45 cars in the UAE until November. Things are now more or less normal," Andrews said.
